How it started
A Community Where Everyone Can Belong and Thrive
Alive House began with two immigrants who shared a simple but powerful belief:
“People rebuilding their lives do better when an entire community shows up for them.”
That belief became the foundation of Alive House and continues to guide everything we do today.
We understand that building a new life in Canada takes more than individual determination. It requires welcoming communities, inclusive employers, accessible education, stable housing, supportive public policies, and meaningful relationships. No individual or organization can create these conditions alone it takes a connected community working toward a shared vision.
Alive House is building a national network that brings together employers, governments, community organizations, educational institutions, newcomers, and community leaders. Together, we strengthen pathways to housing, education, employment, economic inclusion, and belonging.
Through national and regional initiatives, community conversations, leadership development, research, storytelling, and cross-sector partnerships, we create opportunities for people to learn from one another and turn ideas into meaningful action. We centre the voices and lived experiences of newcomers, including immigrants, refugees, international students, youth, adults, and families, while supporting organizations in developing more inclusive systems and practices.
Alive House wasn't just a physical space; it was a concept that embraced life, resilience, and the spirit of community. Their vision was to create an environment where individuals could come alive, find support, and rebuild their lives.

Founded in 2023, Alive House is a national nonprofit organization advancing belonging-centred economic inclusion for newcomers, refugees, international students, and immigrant families across Canada. We connect employers, communities, governments, and institutions to strengthen equitable pathways to housing, education, employment, leadership, and long-term success. We envision a Canada where every person feels seen, valued, supported, and empowered to participate fully and thrive regardless of their background, identity, immigration journey, or socioeconomic status.

To advance belonging-centred economic inclusion by connecting newcomers, refugees, and international students with employers, communities, institutions, and systems that create equitable pathways to employment, education, housing, leadership, and long-term success.
